First-Person View (FPV) Drone Photography and Video

Professional CAA-approved FPV drone pilots, photographers, and filmmakers, working on indoor and outdoor commercial projects

We’re equipped and qualified for first-person view (FPV) drone flights, with setups ranging from traditional GoPro cinewhoops for capturing exhilaratingly acrobatic visuals to custom ‘naked’ Blackmagic builds mounted on cinelifter drones for 6K RAW/ProRes broadcast-ready shoots matched to other on-set cameras.

We use the ‘Thicc’ heavy-lifting (cinelift) model from Shendrones for larger cameras. This drone, much like the Inspire 2, is made for those Hollywood movie projects — but with all the benefits of an FPV (first-person view) drone. And our Insta360 builds record true 360º footage in which the drone is intelligently stitched out.

We’ve used FPV and sports drones to create 360º tours of homes and shops, chase dust-kicking drift cars around the racetrack, survey infrastructures within the walls of commercial and residential buildings, and more.

Qualified FPV Pilots

You’ll be working with legally-approved professional pilots. We hold operational authorisation, granted to us by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) . We’re also a member of Drone Safe Register.

Qualified Spotters

Our spotters are highly experienced in assisting with FPV flights, and are equipped with Eartec headsets to remain in constant contact with the pilot for the entirety of each shoot. Assured safety every time.

National Coverage

Our pilots and ground team work all over the UK, in the busiest and the most remote places. We’re familiar with staying in cities far and wide for multi-week production schedules.

Serious About Safety

Risk assessments, pre-flight plans, and specialist PPE: we ensure every shoot is safe, and closely adhere to the special rules that apply to FPV flights.

Small FPV Drones for
Aerial Inspections in Tight Spaces

Our ‘tiny whoop’ drones can fly in all the small obscured spaces where humans can neither reach nor see: within the walls of properties, inside large machines, and through deep, dark caves.

FPV Sports Drones for Fast-Paced 100mph Shoots

Our cinewhoop and sports drones are primed for action, flying at 100mph speeds and dodging, ducking, flipping, and spinning to perfectly capture fast-paced events, vehicles, and film sequences.

Broadcast-Ready FPV Drone Visuals

Our custom ‘naked’ Blackmagic builds, hefty cinelift drones, and wide range of lenses can be matched to the technical specs and creative vision of every shoot. 8K/4K, in CinemaDNG/Apple ProRes (licensed), at varied focal lengths.

Aerial 360 FPV Photography

Our FPV Insta360 kit captures true 360º visuals, with the drone intelligently stitched out of the footage. These can be shared as immersive social media posts, or adapted for use in traditional video edits.

Video Editing for FPV Drone Visuals

As well as capturing aerial FPV footage, we can create informative and entertaining videos for websites, social media, press, film and TV, and other uses, with 360º shots included.

2D Animation & Titling for FPV Videos

From social-ready text overlays and tracked callouts to full-scale animated ‘explainer’ segments, we use 2D motion graphics to enrich the videos we produce.

All-Day Aerial  Filming

We’re equipped with battery charging generators to keep our FPV drones running all day. Our broad fleet of whoops and quads permit sequential shoots of different scenarios, to avoid recharge downtime.

Multi-Date Deals for Long Productions

Lengthy production schedule? No problem. We’re open to negotiating discounted rates for multi-week, multi-location shoots, for events, sports, film and TV, and the rest!

We looked at the address of the location where we’d be filming — it was the flagship store of luxury fashion house Burberry! Vivid Broadcast did a superb job as the production company running the project.

Gunwharf Quays’ COVID-19 preparations

With bustling crowds, fairly tight thoroughfares, and very few ideal spots for take-offs and landings, shopping centres aren’t the easiest places to fly safely and legally. When Gunwharf Quays offered us the chance to fly around freely during the COVID-19 lockdown, we were ecstatic!

As if our ‘main’ DJI Inspire 2 and Mavic Pro 2 footage wasn’t already ‘never-before-seen’ enough, we used one of our FPV cinewhoops to get some truly unique fast-paced shots. A GoPro mounted to the FPV drone captured the video, and we used ReelSteady to stabilise the results.

FPV shoot of the Sospan Dau for Boskalis

As part of a larger national campaign, we shot the Sospan Dau — a trailing dredger — for Dutch dredging and heavylift firm Boskalis, contributing footage to a UK-wide edit that promoted their maritime infrastructure maintenance services. We used agile whoop drones linked to our FPV headsets to capture these eye-catching, engaging snippets of video. This shoot took place in Newhaven; we’ve also worked with Boskalis in London, Hayling, and Kent.

FPV Tour of Southsea Rock Gardens

As proof of concept for a collaborative project we are working on we captured FPV drone footage of Southsea Rock Gardens. Here’s a Bumble Bee’s eye view tour to feast your eyes on.

Mike filmed this on one of our custom tiny whoop drones. It carries a naked Go Pro Hero 8 camera and is a go anywhere sub 250 gram drone perfect for indoor and outdoor tours.

Kind words from our clients

“JCB and The JCB Golf and Country Club enlisted the experience and expertise of Solent Sky Services to bring a new genre of video to our audiences, with the skill of Solent Sky Services to plan, shoot and edit all within an extremely tight deadline, the team wasted no time in getting stuck in and exploring the 240 acre golf course, all from 4am in the morning! The whole team go above and beyond to deliver exceptional flight skills, customer service and jaw dropping content. It is clear Solent Sky Services are passionate and the industry leader with what they do, and we wouldn’t have had the success we did, without their expertise. We look forward to working on more exciting projects with the team in the future.”

“Loved working with Mike and the team at Solent Sky Services whilst shooting with a WRC2 car earlier in the year. They approached the job with a huge amount of professionalism and captured exactly what we were looking for. Would highly recommend these guys to anybody and would happily utilised their services in the future! All the best!”

“Professionalism, quality, value. Mike and the SSS team did some aerial filming of my property and the surrounding area, and did so superbly. Navigating complex rules to obtain airspace permissions from the harbour authorities, the naval dockyard, the regional air traffic control agency, plus local landowners, he kept me informed from the start to the end, providing polished and professional video products which are now being used in the marketing material for my property. Most excitingly, he used a small internal drone to provide a 'fly-through' video tour of the building, which came out very well. Thank you Mike and Lauren for your help, and I will definitely use in the future for my next project.”
