Capturing ‘Clap For Our Carers’ for our Portsmouth documentary

Stepping out onto the streets at 8pm on March 26th 2020 to join the rapturous Clap For Our Carers applause was the ‘goosebumps moment’ that really pushed us to turn our documentation of ‘Portsmouth under lockdown’ into a full-length film.

Before that night, we’d mostly been taking aerial photographs of the city’s empty streets — one of the more obvious and immediate impacts of COVID-19.

Seeing our social media followers say the pictures were a sense of escapism for them while stuck at home made us feel like we needed to do something more. We just didn’t know what yet.

When we stepped back indoors after celebrating the hard work being done by NHS workers across the UK, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. It was an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime moment. The kind that deserved to be captured.

And that’s how ‘A Different Perspective of Portsmouth’ became our big 2020 project.

The documentary has felt especially poignant ever since Mike and Sara became first-time parents. It was, of course, a team of NHS workers who delivered baby George.

Other memorable nods to key workers over the past 10 months have included huge projections of the NHS logo onto the sides of buildings, additional nationwide claps, and a fleet of Stagecoach buses sharing heartwarming messages of support through their destination displays.

These are just some of the emotional and uplifting scenes we can’t wait to share with you in ‘A Different Perspective of Portsmouth’.
